The “Raising Awareness about Net-Zero in Nigeria (RANZ Nigeria Project)” is a collaborative initiative being implemented by the International Climate Change Development Initiative (ICCDI), the Centre for 21st Century Issues (C21st), and Connected Advocacy (CAD) in Nigeria.
The project is dedicated to enhancing understanding of the critical need to diminish human-induced carbon emissions, a primary driver of climate change, to align with the temperature goal of 1.5°C established in the Paris Climate Agreement. A net-zero approach entails significant reductions in man-made carbon dioxide emissions to prevent further increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide levels. It also involves the removal of already released carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, thereby mitigating the impacts of climate change.
The main goal of the project is to “provide information and tools to communities, media, and CSOs to take action for deep emission reductions in Nigeria”.
The specific objectives include:
Raising awareness about emission reductions and Climate Change mitigation in Nigeria.
Building the capacity of local communities, media, and CSOs to understand Net zero and engage with Climate change mitigation.
Provide feedback from communities, the media, and CSOs to policymakers on mainstreaming community concerns into long-term mitigation strategies for Nigeria.
Centre for 21st Century Issues and partners have;
Organized a one-day capacity-building workshop for media representatives in Nigeria.
Conducted Baseline survey on the level of community awareness of Net zero.
Held town hall meetings on net zero across the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria. C21st held consultations in Abuja and Lagos.
Engaged with CSOs on Net Zero
Engaged with Policy Makers
Developed and circulated net-zero posters in communities across Nigeria.
Developed and Produced two Learning briefs on Net-zero in Nigeria.
